You make a compelling case. A few years ago I made a failed attempt to be an indie publisher of eBooks on the Kindle platform. I refused to get sucked in to the marketing ripoff you set out so well in this article and inevitably the enterprise faltered.

It was even more difficult to promote and books as the publisher than it would have been as the author.
