I agree that Lists CAN be used to organise one's own writing, but I believe they were primarily devised to categorise OTHER writers' work. That is why I compare them to Flickr's Galleries.

In Flickr I can then organise my OWN photos into ALBUMS (distinct from Galleries).

And that is why I think it would be useful if Medium also had two separate ways of organising work — one for a writer's own stories (Volumes) and one for other writers' work (Lists).

To try and make Lists serve both purposes can quickly become messy.
